Who are you?
I’m Christine Jones, a health coach, writer and speaker; a pragmatic optimist, and on a mission to help people like you live the healthy and vibrant life you deserve.
I’ve been interested in health, wellness, spirituality and healing for many years. On a quest to get healthier, lose weight, sleep better and find greater balance in my life, I trained in various types of healing therapies, devoured every new health book that hit the shops, tried all manner of exercise crazes, and became the go-to person for my friends and family for health advice and even some wacky healing practices.
Keen to formalise my knowledge I enrolled with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) in New York to train to become a health coach. The training far exceeded my expectations and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my studies. I learned from some of the best minds in health and wellness, including: Dr Mark Hyman, Deepak Chopra, Arianna Huffington, Dr Andrew Weil, Dr Frank Lipman, Dr Mehmet Oz, David Wolfe, Dr Pamela Yee, Dr Neal Barnard, Dr Joel Fuhrman, Dr Walter Willett, and Marion Nestle PhD, to name but a few.
At IIN I learned innovative coaching methods, practical lifestyle management techniques and over 100 dietary theories – Ayurveda, gluten-free, Paleo, raw, vegan, macrobiotics and everything in between.
I went on to study Gut Health and the microbiome at an advanced level, also with IIN, and will support you to get a healthy gut, and therefore healthier body.
What I’ve come to realise is that being healthy and living a vibrant life isn’t that hard. But, we need to wake up to how modern living (e.g. processed food and technology) is affecting our mind, body and spirit; go back to basics and adopt simple, healthier practices that will help us to restore balance and live our best lives.
What can we achieve together?
With my knowledge, and your willingness, we will co-create completely personalised actions based on your goals to move toward your ideal vision of healthy within your unique body, lifestyle, preferences and resources. Drawing on my expertise, I will work with you to help make lifestyle changes and choose health-promoting ways that produce real and lasting results.
You will develop a deep understanding of food and lifestyle choices that work best for you, improving your energy, balance, happiness and health.
Each session will leave you feeling inspired and motivated. We’ll talk about things in your life, way beyond food, seeking to bring balance to important areas of life such as love, relationships, career and finances. I will personally and carefully guide you to make simple, small changes that transform your life.
Who do you work with?
I primarily work with women, usually 25+. It's important to understand that a health coaching programme is a commitment for you and me. This is not a programme to help you lose a few pounds before your next holiday (although you probably will achieve it), rather this is for you if you're interested in making lasting change in your life.
What is your process when working with clients on a one-to-one basis?
My clients always start by taking part in my FREE Jump Start My Health introductory session. You will complete an intake form, which will form the basis of our first conversation. We’ll explore what’s important to you and decide on the most important areas of focus, should you go on to a full coaching programme.
The coaching programme lasts for six-months, and we’ll meet every two weeks (in person or most likely by Skype or telephone).
I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I will look at how all areas of your life are connected. For example, does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? Does stress in your job or relationships cause you to overeat?
I will help you to get in touch with your body’s needs and equip you with the self-awareness to make the best decision for yourself in any given circumstance. As your coach, I will not dictate a diet for you, but together we’ll explore why some foods make you feel better than others, and how to use that feedback.
At the end of each session, I will offer suggestions and provide you with accompanying handouts and actions you can take over the coming two weeks.
Why do you offer a six-month coaching programme?
It's been shown that six months is the optimal length for someone wanting to make lasting change and transformation. Over a period of six months you will experience lots of different situations, from social occasions, work challenges, holidays and different seasons. You’ll also explore different aspects of your life, discovering imbalances and experimenting with different ways to experience self-care. Importantly, I will be there to guide you through every challenge during the six months. We’ll think through solutions that work for your challenges and find strategies to deal with recurring situations.
What is the Integrative Nutrition approach?
Integrative nutrition is the brain child of Joshua Rosenthal, the founder of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, where I studied. The main difference from other programmes is that the integrative approach focuses on primary and secondary food. Secondary food is everything that we eat, whereas primary food is what nourishes us off the plate: careers, relationships, spiritual practice and exercise, to name but a few. The integrative nutrition approach places a great deal of importance on primary food, believing that if we get these areas of our life into balance we will naturally make better food choices.
Other concepts that are covered include:
Crowding out – instead of giving you a list of foods to avoid or foods to eat, my approach is to encourage you to eat and drink foods that are good for you, thus you will naturally have less room and desire for unhealthy foods.
Bio-individuality – this is the idea that each of us has unique food and lifestyle needs. One person’s food is another’s poison, and that’s why so many fad diets tend to fail in the long-run. Working on the principle of bio-individuality, I’ll support you to make positive changes that are based on your unique needs, lifestyle, preferences and ancestral background.
Deconstructing cravings – cravings play a critical role in understanding what your body needs, and they shouldn’t be ignored. When you learn how to deconstruct your cravings and understand what they’re really telling you, you will be able to reclaim a sense of balance and harmony.
Please note that the above terminology are trademarks of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.
What areas of gut health do you support?
I can help you if you suffer with or have been diagnosed with a gut/digestive health issue, including: constipation and diarrhoea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), leaky gut, candida, Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), heartburn, acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Coelic disease, Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis.
Whilst treatment for these conditions is outside the scope of practice for a health coach, I can support you by helping you to explore and experiment with diet and lifestyle choices. I can also work with you to make good choices that will support your gut and microbiome.
