If the card shops are anything to go by, Valentine's Day is almost upon us. If you want to make use of this 'holiday' to do something gorgeous with your children, then I have something for you. I came across this exercise last year, when my fellow IIN graduate Danielle Rae, shared how shes uses February, the month of love, to teach her children what ‘True Love’ really is about. It was such a lovely idea, with Danielle’s permission, I’m sharing this simple exercise with you.
Danielle is Christian, and she found that there are 14 attributes of love in the Bible. Every night, Danielle and her husband hang up a heart with one of the attributes of love and discuss what the Bible teaches about it. Then, they come up with specific ways they can all put that attribute into action the next day.
You can start on the 1 February and hang a heart every night up to Valentine’s Day or start on the day itself and do it through to the end of the month; whatever your beliefs!
The 14 attributes of love:
- Love is patient
- Love is kind
- Love does not envy or boast
- Love is not arrogant
- Love is not rude
- Love does not insist on its own way
- Love is not irritable or resentful
- Love does not rejoice at a wrongdoing
- Love rejoices with the truth
- Love bears all things
- Love believes all things
- Love hopes all things
- Love endures all things
- Love never ends
You can download the love hearts here (no email address required). Simply print, cut out the love hearts, punch a hole and tie some ribbon through it; then get creative as you discover, with your kids, the true meaning of love.
Happy Valentine’s Day
